"What is the price of an X-ray baggage scanner?" is usually the first question buyers in Delhi, Gurugram and Noida ask. The honest answer is that two scanners that look alike can be quoted very differently, because the price depends on the tunnel size, the imaging, the certification and what is included in the quote. This guide explains what really decides the cost, so you can compare quotations fairly and avoid paying for a machine that is too big, or too small, for your entrance.
Note: prices change with model, brand, exchange rates and quantity, so we do not publish a fixed price list. Ask for an itemised quotation for your site.
1. Tunnel size: 5030 vs 6040 and larger
The model number of most baggage scanners describes the tunnel opening in centimetres. A 5030 scanner has a tunnel of roughly 500 × 300 mm, and a 6040 has about 600 × 400 mm. Larger models, such as 100100 or 150180, are used for cargo and big parcels.
- 5030 class: handbags, laptop bags, backpacks and small parcels. Common at office receptions, hotels, banks, courts and schools. It is the lowest cost option and needs the least floor space.
- 6040 class: trolley bags, suitcases and larger courier boxes. Common at malls, hotels with luggage, metro and railway entrances, and warehouses.
- Larger tunnels: cargo, mail rooms and logistics hubs. These are a different price bracket altogether.
The tunnel is the biggest single factor in the price. Measure the largest bag you actually need to screen, add a little margin, and choose the smallest tunnel that fits. Buying a 6040 for a reception that only sees laptop bags adds cost and takes space you may not have.
2. Imaging: single energy or dual energy
Single energy scanners show a grey image of density. Dual energy scanners colour the image so organic material, inorganic material and metal can be told apart, which makes the operator's job much easier. Most buyers in Delhi NCR today choose dual energy. Software features such as zoom, edge enhancement, image storage and threat image projection (for operator training) also affect the quote.
3. AERB approval and certification
X-ray equipment used in India must meet the rules of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). A genuine AERB approved model, with the right paperwork, can cost more than an uncertified import, but an uncertified machine can create problems at audit or inspection. Before you compare prices, confirm in writing that the exact model in the quote has AERB approval, and ask what registration and operator steps you will need to complete after installation.
4. What is included in the quote
Many price differences come from what is left out. When you compare X-ray baggage scanner prices in Delhi, check that each quotation clearly states:
- Delivery to site, unloading and placement (these machines are heavy)
- Installation, calibration and a radiation leakage check
- Operator training for your security staff
- Warranty period and what it covers (X-ray generator, detector boards, conveyor motor)
- Response time for breakdowns in Delhi NCR
- Annual maintenance contract (AMC) cost after warranty
- Rollers, entry and exit tables, and a UPS or stabiliser if needed
A low price that excludes installation, training and service support often ends up costing more.
5. Buy, rent or AMC: which suits you?
For a permanent entrance, buying with a proper AMC is usually the sensible choice. For short events, exhibitions or functions, some buyers ask about renting a scanner instead. If you only need screening for a few days, ask your supplier whether a rental or short-term arrangement is possible, and check that the rental unit is also AERB compliant.
6. Pair it with a door frame metal detector
Most screening points use the baggage scanner together with a door frame metal detector for people and a handheld metal detector for secondary checks. Buying them together from one supplier makes installation, layout and service simpler, and often gives a better combined price.
Questions to ask before you finalise
- What is the exact tunnel size and maximum conveyor load?
- Is it single or dual energy, and what is the wire and steel penetration?
- Is this exact model AERB approved, and will you share the documents?
- What is included: delivery, installation, training, UPS?
- How long is the warranty, and what does the AMC cost afterwards?
